Research on Carbon Footprint Accounting Method and Emission Reduction Path of Aluminum Industry
The carbon footprint accounting of aluminum products based on ISO 14067 standard shows that the electrolysis process contributes 68% of carbon emissions, and the anode effect produces CF ₄ (GWP=6500) and C ₂ F ₆ (GWP=9200), which are key factors. The emission reduction path focuses on three aspects: first, clean energy substitution (increasing the proportion of hydropower aluminum to 25%), reducing carbon emissions per ton of aluminum to 10.5 tCO ₂; Secondly, the commercialization of inert anode technology can reduce CO ₂ emissions by 1.5t/t-Al; The third is carbon capture and utilization (CCUS), which converts CO ₂ in electrolytic flue gas into methanol (conversion rate ≥ 85%). The pilot project of China Aluminum Industry shows that comprehensive emission reduction measures can reduce the carbon footprint to 6.8tCO ₂/t-Al, reaching the international advanced level.
